About This Vehicle
The Mitsubishi Pajero Evolution is not a special edition created with badges, wheels and cosmetic upgrades.
It exists because Mitsubishi wanted to win the Dakar Rally.
Built between 1997 and 1999 as a homologation special, the Pajero Evolution transformed the compact three-door Pajero into something far more serious. Around 2,500 road cars were produced, giving Mitsubishi the production base required for its competition programme.
Under the bonnet sits a unique 3.5-litre naturally aspirated 6G74 V6 with MIVEC variable valve timing and a dual-plenum intake system, producing approximately 280 hp.
But the Evolution was never only about power.
It received a wider track, dramatically extended bodywork, independent suspension at all four corners, front and rear Torsen differentials and Mitsubishi’s Super Select four-wheel-drive system. The bonnet scoops, oversized arches, rear spoilers and underbody protection were functional reminders of what the car was designed to do.
This 1999 example is rarer still.

Only 22,288 km.
Japanese auction grade 4 with a B interior.

The Pajero Evolution occupies a category that very few SUVs can enter. It is a genuine factory homologation car, developed during an era when engineering decisions were shaped by competition rather than marketing.
