MAZDA COSMO SPORT

Before the RX-7.

Before Le Mans.

Before Mazda became Mazda.

There was the Cosmo.

Introduced in the 1960s, the Mazda Cosmo Sport was more than a sports car. It was a declaration of intent. While much of the automotive world followed conventional engineering, Mazda placed its future on a technology few believed would survive: the rotary engine.

The gamble worked.

Every RX-7, every RX-8, every rotary-powered race car, and ultimately Mazda's historic Le Mans victory can trace its DNA back to this machine.

Looking at it today, the design remains astonishing. Long bonnet. Delicate pillars. Italian-inspired proportions. A shape that feels equally at home beside a Ferrari, Alfa Romeo or Jaguar of the era.

But the real story is not what it looks like.

The real story is what it represents.

This is the car that proved a small Japanese manufacturer could challenge convention and build something the rest of the world had never seen before.

Many classic cars are beautiful.

Very few changed history.

The Mazda Cosmo Sport did both.
